Clover Hill Park Cemetery Birmingham Michigan, Grave Hunting, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Southfield MI, The Gravecast Blog

So on Thursday, being that it was in the 80s temperature wise. I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather, and checkout some cemeteries. Over the winter, and the past few years, I’ve been keeping an eye on local Detroit “celebrities” who’ve passed away. One of which was “Dr. Death” Jack Kevorkian, who passed away in 2011, and is buried in White Chapel Cemetery, in Troy, a Detroit suburb.

Dr. Kevorkian was my original goal for Thursday. However the plan soon changed, when upon further review on the website Find A Grave. When I checked out the bookmark I had saved for the memorial honoring highly acclaimed American journalist, columnist, author, and co-author, Jeffrey Zaslow. I noticed that Zaslow, who’s buried in Clover Hill Park Cemetery, in Birmingham, another Detroit suburb, had a marker at his graveside. Zaslow passed away in 2012 due to complications from an automobile accident he was involved in on a snowy northern Michigan road.  Another grave I planned to look into was the grave of Charles Leiter who’s rumored to also be buried at Clover Hill Park Cemetery. Leiter was an early mentor of the 1920s era Purple Gang who operated in the Detroit, and south-east, Michigan region. Another cemetery I planned to visit along with Clover Hill. Was Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, in Southfield, Michigan.

Upon my arrival at Clover Hill Park Cemetery. I cruised over to section 10B, which is where author, and columnist Jeffery Zaslow, rests. I was unable to find his gravesite, so I then cruised over to section 7, where Charles Leiter is rumored to be buried. After searching section: 7, for about twenty or so minutes, I came up empty-handed trying to find his grave. I then hopped back into my car, and cruised over to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.

Upon my arrival at Holy Sepulchre, I strolled into the office to inquire about three particular names of whose graves I was looking for. After obtaining the precise locations of “reputed” Detroit organized crime figures: Pietro “Peter” Corrado who died in January 1957, his son Dominic Peter “Fats” Corrado who died on June 26th 1985, & Michael Santo Polizzi who died on December 6th 1997. I then cruised over to the majestic mausoleum where these three hoodlums were at eternal rest. After photographing the graves (which you can see below) of the three Detroit mafioso’s. I then made my departure for home.

Grave Hunters, Grave Hunting, Grave Site Photo Contribution, Richard Conte, The Gravecast Blog

For those of you who are interested. I’m looking for grave hunters from around the country. Who would be interested in photographing some specific gravesites for me. The reason being is that I’m contemplating the thought of writing a book on a particular grave hunting topic which will remain anonymous for now until I get the ball rolling.

Being that this is somewhat of a huge undertaking, and my wallet is tight these days, I can’t be everywhere at once. So I thought I’d put the word out there, that I’m looking for people who would be interested in contributing photos for the book I’m contemplating on writing. Keep in mind any photo you contribute for the book and that photo is used in the print and/or eBook edition of the book. You will get the credit to the photo(s) you contribute with name recognition.

Before I forget I’ve got an extensive list of grave sites I’d like to get photos of. From pretty much anywhere in the United States with a major metropolitan area. So with that being said if your interested in doing a little grave hunting for The Motor City Morbid One, please don’t hesitate to send an email to me. And I’ll give you the details of whose grave sites I’d like photos of. My contact info can be found on the “About Me” page, if you do email me please put “Grave Hunting” or something along those lines in the subject area. Also don’t forget to let me know what region your from, I’ll then check my list to see if I need any photos from your geographic area. I do hope to hear from you soon.

Who’s Buried In Grant’s Tomb: A Tour of Presidential Gravesites by Brian Lamb

Published by Public Affairs Books; Revised & Updated Third Ed, February 2010; ISBN 9781586488697; Pages: 247; Price: $16.95 U.S./$21.50 Canada.

One of the books I have in my growing grave hunting/cemetery book library. Is an interesting approach to the typical cemetery/grave hunting related books you’d find in your local bookstore or on websites like Amazon. The literary work I’m talking about is “Who’s Buried In Grant’s Tomb: A Tour of Presidential Gravesites” by Brian Lamb.

“Who’s Buried In Grant’s Tomb: A Tour of Presidential Gravesites” chronicles the lives (and usually the death’s) of each of the forty-four United States Presidents starting with our nations first President George Washington, and ending with our current President Barack Obama. Each biographical sketch between the covers of this fabulous book is narrated with a concise life story of the President being discussed.

Each biographical narrative of the forty-four Presidents, highlights that Presidents life, during his time in the Oval Office. Each well written concise biography also chronicles their lives after leaving office. Some of the highlights you will be overwhelmed with fascination include some of the positive, and negative impacts each President had on the American public while in office.

Some of the features you will find nestled in this book includes the statistical data of each President when he was in office, their birth/death dates, age at death, cause of death, in most cases their final words, etc. Another tidbit I find really fascinating is an imprint of each Presidents signature which is off to the side at the beginning of their respective biographical narratives.

This book includes forty-eight pages of beautiful glossy photos of Presidential gravesites (for those who’ve died) in many cases their official libraries, and homes they grew up in. Also included in the book in Appendix A through F is even more statistical data which includes lists of cemeteries the Presidents are buried in, who died in office, length of retirement after leaving office, gravesites by state, and presidential libraries.

Finally to close. This book is a must have for your collection. If your into Presidential history, American history, grave hunting, and things of that sort. While politics is not really my forte, I was easily blown away by what I learned about our nations forty-four Presidents. Needless to say I HIGHLY recommend this book.

In episode 11 of The Gravecast Show Podcast, Steve Goldstein and myself, got a chance recently to interview The Godfather of Grave Hunting, Roger Sinclair. This was a highly informative, AND fun interview with The Godfather himself. During the interview Roger reminisces about past experiences grave hunting in Southern California. We also go into a question and answer segment, which brought to life many of Rogers thoughts about the hobby. I’m sure you will enjoy this interview, it was a total honor to interview The Godfather of Grave Hunting. Lastly, I’d like to mention the intro music you hear serenading your ears before the podcast segment. Was created by my good friend and musician Stephen Gresso.
