Frustrations, etc…

I’m going to Chicago in about a week and a half… I’m very excited about this long over due trip to the windy city… With that said right now I’m scrambling hard to finish up obtaining the locations in the cemeteries of various gangsters I’m planning on taking pictures of… I’ve pretty much have Mt. Carmel to work on now

For the most part the cemetery staff at the office have been very helpful in looking up the info for me over the phone… It makes my job a lot easier so then that way all I have to do when I get to the cemetery is just ask to get a map of the cemetery and an enlarged map of the various sections the gangsters are buried in…

The only thing I’m frustrated about is that I’ve been trying to obtain the location of Fred Goetz aka Shotgun Ziegler it was rumored that he had something to do with the St. Valentines Day Massacre… I called Irving Park Cemetery and they sent me to Rosehill cemetery… Rosehill cemetery flat out told me if I’m not a relative or friend of the deceased I can’t obtain the location this was after I told them who I was looking for… I even told the lady on the phone I was doing research…

Needless to say other than the two incidents at Rosehill, and Irving Park I’ve been very fortunate with the help I’ve been getting from the cemeteries… And here I thought Mt. Carmel cemetery was gonna be a pain in my royal ass to deal with… The thing is though is that if your nice and don’t bombard the staff with a gazilion names I’m sure it wouldn’t be a problem…

Ordered Two Books For My Trip To Chicago Next Month

10 Wednesday Sep 2008

I ordered these earlier in the week they should be arriving today according to Amazon.com… The two books I ordered are “Mount Carmel and Queen of Heaven Cemeteries” which is another Arcadia Published book… This book has a chapter on the gangsters buried in Mt. Carmel which is the sole reason why I bought it… The second book “Graveyards of Chicago: The People, History, Art, and Lore of Cook County Cemeteries” is another grave hunting book which I hope talks about in general the grave sites of notable Chicagoans… I’m not really interested in the Art part of the book but other three seem enticing…

One thing to keep in mind about grave hunting books is that they are always coming out with new ones… So it would be in your best interest to be kept up to date with them… Because celebrities and other notables are dropping dead on a regular basis… Not that I wish and desire that by all means but its a stated fact…

Yesterday's Mission…

10 Wednesday Sep 2008

Yesterday I broke my record of visiting two cemeteries to doubling that to visiting four both on seperate sides of town mind you… I found the grave sites of several Detroit Police Officers, who were killed in the line of duty and others which included mostly athletes… It was an interesting day to say the least… I got pulled over twice in less than an hour time frame… All because my passenger side mirror was hanging on the side of the car… Fortunately the first cop who pulled me over let me off with a warning he was nice… The second PIG who pulled me over let me off with a warning for the mirror violation but gave me a ticket for having expired insurance…

So other than getting pulled over twice I had a pretty successful day out in the field… I do feel bad for having the lady at Holy Sepulchre look up the six names I needed locations for… She did not look happy when I strutted into the office and provided the names I needed… So I thanked her after she was done and told her I greatly appreciated her help… See now thats the key to things you gotta be nice to people who do these types of favors for you… You future grave hunters will learn alot from the Grand Pooh Bah of Grave Hunting in Michigan if you follow my lead…

Today will be day three of my grave hunting mission… Sunday I started off at Elmwood Cemetery, yesterday I went to Mt. Olivet on 6 Mile and Van Dyke in Detroit… Today I plan on going to Resurrection in Clinton Township to get the grave site photo’s of two Detroit cops who were murdered… Then after I’m done with that I’m gonna come home briefly and compile my next mission list then haul ass over to Holy Sepulchre cemetery in Southfield where I plan on getting the grave site photo’s of a few more cops, some athletes, etc… Damn I am on a roll…

A First For Everything…

08 Monday Sep 2008

Today I went downtown to Elmwood Cemetery situated off of Lafayette Ave in downtown Detroit… I had a good day grave hunting I’ll be posting pics of my finds tomorrow… One thing I’d like to mention is that if your grave hunting besure to check what time the cemetery closes… Today I assumed it closed at 7 because those are the Summer hours up until September 15…

Little did I know is that the cemetery closed early today… Fortunately I was getting ready to finish up when the security guard informs me that I have to leave because the cemetery was closed… Apparently they were doing some sort of repaving work in the cemetery… So I apologized and was let out then left… So I guess there is a first for everything this is the first time I was practically locked in a cemetery…/
