For those of you who wish to be in the know. As of today I’ve changed the domain name of this blog from gravesidestroll.com TO grave-cast.com. So if you get a chance feel free to change the address if you have the site saved in your bookmarks. Please keep in mind, the old domain name gravesidestroll.com is still active and will redirect you to the grave-cast.com domain. Its pretty much the same site just a new name, for a new adventure. As mentioned a while back, everything is staying the same. The only thing that is different is the domain name. I feel the new domain name will coincide with the current podcasting venture.

Just a Blurb: Things To Come.

For those of you who wish to be in the know. I’d like to keep you all updated on some things I’m working on. First and foremost I’m in the process of changing the domain name of the blog from “Graveside Stroll” to “Gravecast.” Everything will be staying the same the Chronicles, Gravecations, Recaps, Media Reviews, Podcasts, Videos, In Memoriam, and Miscellaneous Posts. The reason I’ve decided to change the name to Gravecast, is due in part because I’ve started doing podcasts on the blog, also because I feel the name sounds more catchy, and it would be easier to remember. So that’s pretty much all I have to say for now, on the name change.

As this blog moves forward, I’m gonna try to be more active with the things I produce. The main thing I’m working on at the moment, are the podcasts. I’ve got a few interviews lined up in the coming weeks, plus some things I’m gonna be discussing on the podcasts. In recent news about two months ago I went on a gravecation to Los Angeles. During the trip to LA, I created a few blog posts, about the trip as it was happening. That being said, I invite you to check out my “LA Gravecation” blog posts. To see them click on the drop down menu under categories on the left side of the page and click on “Grave Hunting Gravecations.”

And finally, if you have suggestions, on how I could make things more interesting on the blog, or grave hunting topics to discuss on The Gravecast Podcast, feel free to send me an email, or leave a comment below. I’m seriously looking forward to hearing what you have to say.

As mentioned on April 14th. Its been brought to my attention that several listeners of episode 2 of the Graveside Stroll Grave Hunting podcast. Were not able to hear the audio portions where I ask guest Steve Goldstein the questions I had lined up. I’m just letting you all know Steve has been kind enough to allow me to interview him again this Saturday April 30th. I’ll be asking the same questions as the original podcast consisted of. We will also be having a discussion about his book “LA’s Graveside Companion: Where The VIP’s RIP”. So please stay tuned.

Update & Things To Come.

I’m in the lounge at the cigar shop puffing on a cigar. I thought I’d bring you all up to date on some things. Well first things first. Yesterday I renewed the domain name of the blog for another year. So that means, you the loyal readers will get updates, book reviews, graveside recaps, grave hunting chronicle stories, among other grave hunting, related topic updates for another year.

The next thing I wanted to bring up. As mentioned on March 17th St. Patrick’s Day I’m gonna start podcasting in the coming weeks. So with that said due to the fact that I had the wish to start podcasting, it was a requirement from Word Press (who host this blog) that I upgrade the web space so I’d have the ability to upload audio MP3 files. Some of the things I have planned for the podcasts, is to interview friends of mine from the world of grave hunting, who’ve written books, have their own website, or are uniquely involved with the hobby in some way. I’ve also got some other ideas I’m working on which I’ve discussed in the March 17 blog post.

Also as noted in the March 4th blog post. I’m heading to Los Angeles, California at the end of May to check out celebrity gravesites a for a week and a half. What I wanted to mention is the fact that I’ll be doing daily updates on the blog of who’s gravesites I find. I did the same thing when I went to Chicago last June.

Also to help increase the readership of Graveside Stroll I submitted a link of the blog to the networked blogs website. To be honest I’m not really desperate for readers of the blog. But I’m trying to increase the readership anyway I can. I’m also thinking of new ways to be interactive as in the future use of podcasting. That’s pretty much all I have to say at the moment. So sit back light up your favorite cigar, drink your favorite libation, and hang out a while.

Toto's Memorial Marker

Hollywood Forever Cemetery, JP Myers, Steve Goldstein, Toto, Toto Memorial Marker, Tyler Cassity, Wizard of Oz

The endeavor begins in October of 2010. A friend of mine JP is hard at work at the medical diagnostic firm he works at. During a break at work JP has a discussion with a co-worker, about the Huell Howser show. One episode in particular the co-worker mentions, Huell is interviewing Steve Goldstein (another friend of mine) about famous animals (you know animal actors).

The co-worker brings up the fact that Steve & Huell film a segment at the location which used to be the Carl Spitz Ranch which is now part of the Ventura freeway. Carl Spitz was the famed animal trainer who trained a multitude of animal actors back in the golden era of Hollywood. Including Toto the little dog in The Wizard of Oz film.

Growing up in southern California, a stones throw away from many of the film studio lots which churned out 100’s of blockbuster films. JP has fond memories as a child watching “The Wizard of Oz.” After the discussion with the co-worker and realizing that he not only lived less than a mile away from the site, but went to elementary school several blocks  away from the ranch. JP decides then and there that it will be his quest to gather the resources, and interest to have a memorial marker erected in Honor of Toto and that’s where this story begins.

To get the ball rolling, JP enlists the help of Steve Goldstein. The original plan was to have the memorial placed at the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park, but the idea was put to rest, when the board of directors of the cemetery turned down the proposal to place an upright marker on the grounds of the cemetery.

Then fast forward to about a week ago, it was announced that Tyler Cassity who owns Hollywood Forever cemetery was more than willing to donate  a plot, and offered to build the memorial honoring Toto. The work is not finished yet. While Hollywood Forever agreed to donate the plot, and construct the memorial honoring Toto at no cost.

In return for the Toto memorial to be placed at Hollywood Forever JP is asking for donations so he can donate the money to the Hollywood Forever Endowment Fund. The endowment fund is what will keep the cemetery up and running for tourists, and Angelenos, to enjoy for years to come . The money goes towards the up keep, maintenance, and proper care of the cemetery grounds.

For those of you who are interested in learning more about this extremely worthy cause. I highly suggest you visit the official Facebook page here. If you visit the official Facebook page there are some examples of what the memorial may look like. There was also some recent media attention given to this worthy cause. The Los Angeles CBS affiliate did a story on Toto’s planned memorial marker. You can check that out by clicking here.

On a final note. I’d like to congratulate  JP Myers, and Steve Goldstein for putting this thing together and getting the ball rolling. I’d also like to personally thank JP for donating the photo of Toto & Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz film, and giving me some background info on how this whole thing got underway. The memorial marker if you’re wondering should be in place by May of 2011.
