Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

24 Thursday Dec 2009

I just wanted to take a moment out of my busy day. To wish all my viewers, admirers, and loyal fans a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.  This is the time of year where were all  thankful for what we have it doesn’t matter how much or how little we have things. We all just need to appreciate the things we have and have hope for the future that if your down and out this time of year. Just know things will pick up eventually.

Anyway, being that I’m in Michigan which is a frozen tundra this time of year. I’m taking a break from the hobby I love so much (Grave Hunting) due to the cold weather. For the most part I’m caught up on editing and uploading cemetery video footage to my You Tube page. I have plans to visit California this upcoming May or June with a possible side trip to LA. The LA side trip is  up in the air at the moment. But I’ll more than likely be in the Sacramento area.

I have some new grave hunting themed projects planned for next Spring, and Summer. So it most definitely will be a very enjoyable adventure.

My Proposal to Schiffer Publishing.

Here is the proposal I wrote and emailed to Schiffer Publishing.

To whom this may concern. I’m writing you because I had an idea for a book you might be interested in. To begin the book I’d like to write is on grave hunting. The idea I had in mind is this. There are many books on the grave sites of famous people, and other notables, along with cemeteries in general. The idea I had in mind for a book would be like a how-to manual on how to get started in the hobby. I have roughly 10 years grave hunting in various localities around the United States and to my knowledge there are no books that I’ve seen on the market that talk about general grave hunting topics in relation to getting started, tips, tricks, etc.

The photos in the book would pretty much be examples of the grave sites of famous and notable people I’ve found in the past. I’d also include examples of cemetery maps I’ve used which are one of the key tools grave hunters use when finding notable or famous people. The target audience would be anyone and everyone who has an interest in cemeteries in varying degree’s, they could be genealogists, grave hunters, or just people who like to stroll around historic cemeteries and look at the markers. The age range would probably be late teens to elderly people.

The way the book I had in mind is different from others of the same topic or subject manner. Is that it would be a how-to manual of sorts on how to get started for newbies interested in finding the grave sites of notable or famous people. It could also be used by novice & expert grave hunters as a refresher course. I feel a book of this nature would be the first of its kind because it would be geared towards grave hunters, cemetery enthusiasts, genealogists because it wouldn’t necessarily be a sight seeing style book.

I see the book being reviewed, marketed and sold, on the internet, along with any book store who wishes to sell the book. Especially in the Southern California area where anyone who was anything in Hollywood is pretty much buried in local cemeteries. Not to mention people from all over the world flock to LA not only to sight see but to also visit the cemeteries where famous celebrities are buried. This book could help them in their adventure to seek out their favorite celebrities grave site.

The best time to get in contact with me is anytime after 12pm Eastern Standard Time. I included my cell phone number with this email so you can get a hold of me. Or if you wish email would do just fine.

On a final note here are some photos of grave sites I’ve taken which include a few scenery shots in a local cemetery and a few grave markers I’ve shot. I’ve also included a few maps to give you an idea about that. Thank you for your time I really look forward to hearing from you soon.

Josh

One Year Ago.

I’ve come to realize that as of last month this blog has been online one year. With the blog originally being on the blogspot.com website. Then eventually moving to this site the blog has come a long way. Granted its an on going work in progress as I create posts when I feel the need to, or when I upload videos to my You Tube Page. I have much more planned in the next year. Including a trip to Chicago and California.

Currently I’m winding down for the season being that I live in Michigan its starting to get colder here with the temperature change. The weather is not really optimum for grave hunting conditions. So in the mean time I’m doing lots of research, purchasing books, planning trips out of state geared towards grave hunting in general.

I still have some video footage left to edit and upload to my You Tube page. I think I’ve got about one or two MiniDV cassette tapes left to edit and upload. I should have enough material in that regard to last a little while as far as new content is concerned.

Also starting next Spring I’m gonna focus some time on tracking down the grave sites of baseball players who are buried in the greater Detroit area while also focusing on other grave hunting subject matters that I enjoy (mobsters, murder victims, celebs, you get the idea lol). Recently I was able to obtain a very extensive list that mentioned the birth, death, and cemetery locations of a very large number of baseball players buried in Michigan. So I’ll be working on that a bit after the weather gets nicer and the snow finally takes a vacation next Spring.

Elmwood Cemetery Detroit, Elmwood Cemetery Video, The Gravecast Film Series

For those of you who are interested in checking out the two grave hunting videos I’ve recently uploaded to You Tube here they are.

The above video pertains to some American Civil War (ACW) personages grave sites. I’ve recently shot video footage of in Elmwood Cemetery located in downtown Detroit on Lafayette Ave. There are a few Civil War generals in this video who didn’t fit on the first Elmwood video on Civil War generals. There are also a few others who had something or the other to do with the Civil War.

The second video is a compilation of miscellaneous personages who I couldnt properly organize. I have some upcoming footage on Woodmere cemetery located in southwest Detroit, Machpelah (Jewish) cemetery located in Ferndale,  more Elmwood footage, and Holy Sepulcher cemetery located in Southfield off of 10 mile road.
