For those of you who are interested. I’ve created a store through zazzle.com. The apparel, and other things offered in the store are geared towards that grave hunter who desires a unique approach and has discerning tastes when it comes to the clothing they wear. These t-shirts, and other things are one of a kind and it will show everyone you come in contact with what hobby you love and take part in.

As time goes on I’ll be adding more apparel to the store which will have trendy slogans in which you can show off to the world. So without further adieu here is my store

New Videos

For those of you who are interested or follow this blog like the plague. I’m in the process of editing, and uploading brand new graveside footage to my You Tube page. At the moment I have three brand new graveside documentaries I’ve recently edited, and uploaded to You Tube. The first graveside documentary is on R&B musician Otis “Lightnin’ Slim” Hicks who’s interred in Oak Hill cemetery situated on University Drive,  in Pontiac, Michigan.

Moving along the next graveside documentary I recently uploaded to You Tube is the new series I’m working on titled “Gangsters In Granite”. In Volume I of this inaugural series we visit the grave sites of gangster John Reid, and Purple Gang member Harry Keywell. John Reid is buried in Evergreen cemetery situated on Woodward Ave, a block south of Woodlawn cemetery in Detroit. Harry Keywell is buried in Machpelah Jewish cemetery also situated on Woodward Ave, but can be found in fashionable Ferndale, Michigan.

The third grave site documentary  I edited/uploaded to You Tube is the documentary “Actors Abound” in this  documentary we visit the grave site of multi-talented actor Frank Nastasi. Known for being a well rounded puppeteer on childrens TV shows back in the 1950s and 1960s. He also appeared in several movies,  as well as on broadway/off-broadway stage performances of musicals, and plays, among other acting roles.

Another grave site we visited in the “Actors Abound” documentary is Tom Tyler who was an actor in B-grade western films throughout the 1920s up until the late 1940s.

Finally for some odd reason I can no longer embed documentaries I’ve uploaded to You Tube on this blog. With that said I’m in the process of purchasing a domain name for this blog. When I do that I also plan to buy the service where I’ll be able to upload videos I’ve made directly to the word press site for this blog. When I start uploading videos directly to my blog I’ll also be uploading them to my You Tube Page as a back-up site. So with all this said in regards to not being able to embed the videos I’ve made for this blog. Please click on the You Tube links I have throughout this post.

Coming Soon!

I’ve got a lot planned this Spring & Summer for my grave hunting adventures. In June I’m going to Chicago for a week to do some graving. During the wild adventure to Chicago I plan on visiting some more prohibition era gangster grave sites. I’m also gonna try to mix in some celebrity grave sites as well.

Things for you guys to look forward to in the coming months. I have about 20 minutes left on the miniDV cassette tape that I have in the camcorder. After I’m finished using the miniDV cassette  I’m going to upload the footage to my computer, then edit it, then upload the finished video(s) to my You Tube page. I have some footage from Mt. Olivet to edit where I visited some celebrities, and athletes, grave sites. As well as other footage from Machpelah, Evergreen cemetery, Detroit Memorial Park, White Chapel, etc.

I’m also considering making this blog a .com. I was checking out the yearly rates to host a blog on word press where I’d own a domain name. The rates are relatively inexpensive so I might be able to do it. If I do turn this adventure into a .com I’m thinking about having some apparel, and/or bumper stickers created that say “Support Your Local Grave Hunter” or something to that effect.

Originally I was going to create a website that wasn’t a blog. But I really like the look and feel of this blog where I include videos, and photos in updates as I go along. So we shall see.

Things To Ponder!

From time to time I get asked different questions related to grave hunting. Those questions would be anything from why do I grave hunt? who’s grave sites have I been to? to the more recent question a good friend of mine asked: Haven’t you seen all the graves out there?

To which I replied “not all of them  I do know what you meant by asking this question. Because from time to time I have to come up with new goals in the cemetery .”

I then went on to say “it does get kinda boring going to the same cemetery all the time that’s why I have to mix it up a bit and find new cemeteries to check out.”

To which my friend asked “how do you find new ones (cemeteries)?

To which I replied online resources findagrave.com, referring to books I own, etc. I also keep an eye on obituaries posted online for the chance of  a celebrity who drops dead being buried in my area.

Elmwood Cemetery, Margaret Mather Finlayson

This installment of the Graveside Stroll is dedicated to Margaret Mather Finlayson. Born into an indigent family. Her father John Finlayson was a farmer and  mechanic, her mother Ann Mather was a homemaker. One of the interesting things about Miss Margaret Mather Finlayson was that she was one of the leading Shakespearean actresses in the 1880s & 1890s.

In 1885 at Union Square Theater in New York she premiered as Juliet in the theatrical portrayal Romeo & Juliette. This theatrical performance was heavily promoted but in the end caused mixed reviews. While Margaret portrayed her character to the best of her ability. Critics were a bit critical of the performance. Other noteworthy character roles she performed as Lady Macbeth which was the title role in Bulwer-Lytton’s The Lady of Lyons and in Augustin Daly’s Leah the Forsaken.

In the late 1890s after several theatrical failures she put her acting shoes to rest after marrying Gustave Pabst who was an heir to the Pabst Brewing empire. But they soon divorced after she apparently threatened Gustaver with a whip. After this marriage ended she returned to the stage and portrayed Imogen in Cymbeline. The performance of the show was very glitzy and glamorous costing a whopping forty thousand dollars, but the show failed miserably. The lack of the show being promoted caused the public to know very little of the production.

In 1883-84 she toured the United States and Canada portraying Juliette on stage. She also suffered from chronic illness and her life came to a tragic end when she died on stage. Margaret was laid to rest  in her white gown she wore portraying Juliette and is interred in Detroit’s Elmwood Cemetery.
