This is one of the questions I’ve been pondering recently… And that is why do I go grave hunting? its self explainatory to say the least… I guess my personal reasons would be different than any one person… For starters I guess I got more into it after my brother took his own life 11 years… When he was alive I was known to go to Mt. Carmel Cemetery in suburban Chicago with the help of various relatives… Then I suppose after he died that hobby expanded.

I guess when he died I dove into a deep depression and to cope with his loss I would trek into various cemeteries in the Detroit area… Seeking out the final resting places of anyone who had something or the other to do with history. I didn’t care who they were as long as they had something to do with history I wanted to see their grave sites… Up until recently about a year or two ago I decided to start visiting the grave sites of murder victims, which included police officers, kidnap victims, and others…

What I’m trying to say is is that this hobby pretty much took off after my brother died… It originally started with visiting the grave sites of Chicago gangsters, when I’d find my self visiting the windy city at any given time of the year mostly in the Spring and Summer months… After Matt, died it pretty much expanded… Nowadays I don’t use it as a coping mechanism per see I’m pretty much interested in learning about history in the form of visiting grave sites and doing research to go along with who I’m visiting or have the desire to pay respects to at various cemeteries…

Grave Hunting is a wonderful hobby I would assume that most people don’t typically get started in it the way I did… Most people are celebrity grave hunters meaning they hunt down the grave sites of celebrities, others are genealogists who do cemetery research on their own in regards to loved ones of theirs or loved ones related to people they are doing research for… For some people they like to go trotting into cemeteries to admire the fancy artistically created monuments… And for some they like visiting the grave sites of historic figures… I would consider my self a cross between a celebrity and historic grave hunter…
